Determiners

DETERMINER वे शब्द जो किसी NOUN के पूर्व आकर उस NOUN की पहचान सुनिश्चित करते हैं। DETERMINERS के तुरंत बाद NOUN का प्रयोग आवश्यक होता है।

Determiners

KINDS OF DETERMINERS

1. Article: a/an, the
2. Possessives: my, our, your, his, her, its, their
3. Demonstrative: this, that, these, those
4. Distributive: all, both, half, either, neither, each, every, only
5. Numbers: one, two, ten, thirty, first, second
6. Quantifiers: a few, a little, much, many, a lot of, most, some, any, enough
7. Interrogative: what, which, whose

Important Functions of Determiners:

• DETERMINERS किसी NOUN की संख्या (Numbers) बताते हैं।
• DETERMINERS किसी NOUN की मात्रा (Quantity) बताते हैं।
• DETERMINERS किसी NOUN की ओर संकेत(Point out) करते हैं।
• DETERMINERS कौन-सा? कितना? - जैसे प्रश्नों के उतर देते हैं।
• NOUN के बिना DETERMINERS का प्रयोग नहीं हो सकता हैं।

अब निम्नलिखित SENTENCES को देखे और इनमे पर्युक्त DETERMINERS पर ध्यान दें-

1. Ashok has a pen.
2. You have an elephant.
3. The dog is a faithful animal.
4. Every man has a mouth.
5. Which city do you live in?
6. Whose pen are you using?
7. What job will you prefer?
8. Either room is good.
9. The whole village was destroyed by the flood.
10. Here plenty of water in the well.
11. Two-thirds of the work has been completed.

जब SENTENCE में THIS, THAT, THESE व THOSE के ठीक बाद NOUNS रहते हैं, तब ये DETERMINERS कहलाते हैं।

1. This dog is red.                                   (This - Determiner)

जब SENTENCE में THIS, THAT, THESE व THOSE के ठीक बाद NOUNS नहीं रहते हैं, तब ये DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS कहलाते हैं।

1. This is a dog.                                       (This - Demonstrative Pronoun)

इनके अतिरिक्त कुछ और DETERMINERS हैं जो PRONOUNS के रूप में प्रयुक्त होते हैं।
जैसे - Many, More, Most, Some, Several, All, Both, Half, One, Enough, Each, Either, Neither,  What, Which, Whose, etc.

Examples:-

1. Many students are absent.                   (Many - Determiner)
2. Many are absent.                                 (Many - Pronoun)
3. Whose shirt is this?                             (Whose - Determiner)
4. Whose is this?                                     (Whose - Pronoun)
5. What job will you like?                       (What - Determiner)            
6. What is your name?                             (What - Pronoun)

इन EXAMPLES  से स्पष्ट होता है कि DETERMINERS के अन्तर्गत आनेवाले अधिकांश शब्द बिना NOUNS  के प्रयुक्त हो सकते हैं या इनके बाद OF CONSTRUCTION (Some of the people are laborious) आ सकता है। दोनों ही स्थितियों में ये PRONOUNS होंगे।
